From Humble Beginnings to a Beacon of Excellence

Formative Years (1999-2009)

The Beginnings and Growth of St. Cecilia's College-Cebu

The formative years of the school were marked by efforts to develop the 10 initial pupils who enrolled and to construct necessary buildings. The school population increased in the succeeding years, and within five years, it was considered for the name "Performing Arts Center of the South" due to its Summer Workshop classes in Music, Painting, Speech, and more, which were available to its pupils and students from other local schools. However, after the fifth year, the founder decided to sell the school to the current owner, Mrs. Rosalina N. Go.

The Preschool eventually expanded, opening Primary and Elementary levels. Upon the request of the parents, a complete High School was added. In June 2005, the school was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a non-stock, non-profit corporation under the official name of St. Cecilia's College - Cebu, Inc., with Mrs. Maria de la Rosa as Principal. As the school population grew, it rented additional space in the nearby area for the Elementary and High School while continuing to construct a five-story building, the St. La Salle building, at the original Preschool location.

The Elementary Department held its first graduation ceremony in March 2006, and the High School followed in March 2007 with seven graduates. The College Department opened in June 2007, offering BEED, BSED, BSIT, BSHM, and BSBA degrees, with an initial enrollment of seven students under the leadership of Mr. Alfredo Moreno, Jr., College Dean. The school was registered with the SEC under the name St. Cecilia's College-Cebu, Inc. The sixth story of the building was completed in December 2007, and in June 2008, Grades 4-6, High School, and College students occupied the new building.

In July 2008, the Preschool, Elementary, SPED, and Secondary curriculums were granted Government Recognition by the Department of Education. In November 2008, Pensionne St. Cecilia, which later became the laboratory facility for BSHM and BSTM, was acquired and is currently the Basic Home Economics building.

To further improve the quality of education and produce globally competitive graduates, the school applied for assistance from the Lasallian Schools Supervision Office (LASSO) in February 2009. A three-member team composed of Sr. Teresita C. Octavio, Dr. John T. Cabalo, and Dr. Herminia D. Torres visited the school. Subsequently, St. Cecilia's College-Cebu, Inc. was granted Consultancy status by LASSO. The services commenced with Br. Ophelia S. Fugoso AFSC, LASSO Supervisor, Ms. Isabel Macrina V. Encabo, Principal, College Dean, and Mr. Mark Joel N. Go, President.
